curvilinear

56 l x 18 h x 17.5 d

In 2013, the Farnsworth Museum

co-sponsored a design competition, Designing Benches. The exhibition of finalists, held at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, featured 15 of the 73 designs from 44 Maine-based makers. Curvilinear was one of two designs selected as pieces of functional seating

that are also now part of

the permanent collection.

Inspired by an airplane wing, curvilinear is hollow with ribs that support the outside structure. The bench is solid curved maple with an inlaid Peruvian walnut edge detail.
